Julicher Winery Martinborough
IMAGE

Julicher winery is located on the Te Muna Terraces on the outskirts of Martinborough in New Zealand. It’s a stunning location, well worth visiting. The winery specialises in producing distinctive hand crafted wines, having released their first vintage back in 2002.

The winery is actually quite small, despite having over 20 hectares of vineyard. There are two temperature controlled steel framed buildings which house all the winemaking equipment, taking on a very hands on approach compared to some of the large-scale wine making operations.

The grapes are grown right next to the winery, pick into small trays, carried into the winery and immediately vinified, ensuring the wine is as fresh as possible. The wines are good quality and have very low sulphite levels.

Julicher winery are renowned for their gold medal winning Pinot Noirs, but are also developing a good reputation for the quality of their white wines.

Juhlicher Martinborough Pinot Noir is a blend of clones of Pinot Noir from different parts of the vineyard. The grapes were hand picked on the 7th April 2009, after fermentation the wine was aged in 35% new French oak for 11 months. The wine is very limited in quantity, but is available for £24.95 at Good Wine Online.
