France is one of the main countries that produces wine, starting from the farming of vineyards, to the process of turning grapes into wine. They are also one of the main exporters of wine, along with Italy and Spain in the world. These countries are well set up to facilitate the wine making process from start to finish due to their fertile land, suitable weather conditions and passion towards successful wine making. France have the second largest vineyard area; after Spain, and are also competes with Italy for being the largest wine producing country in the world.

Every French wine is usually produced in one of the main wine producing areas, which are famously; Bordeaux, Burgundy, Rhone Valley and Champagne. Although there are more locations across France that produce wine, the areas; along with their sub areas, are considered to be the biggest and most prestigious wine production areas within the country.

Bordeaux is well renowned for its production of red wine, which is widely known as claret in the United Kingdom. Amongst other types of wines, Bordeaux French wines are generally considered to be fantastic wines with great taste, which are very popular amongst the world. This region also prides itself on producing sweet white wine, being a popular choice of drink across the country and neighbors.

Burgundy is another famous region of France that produces wine. It is mainly a producer of the “Burgundies”, consisting of red wine mainly made up of Pinot Noir grapes. The white wine that is made in this region uses Chardonnay, as well as Gamay and Aligote. This region is a large producer along with the other main areas, with many different vineyards and wineries located within the region.

Rhone Valley is another area of France, which is split into a northern and southern district. The northern area has a milder climate than the south, with harsher winters and not so hot summers. The southern area has much more Mediterranean style weather, with sunny, hot summers and mild winters. The wines produced in this region range from red, white and rose, offering a great mix of available drinks.

Champagne is a region located about 100 miles east of Paris. The region is famous for the production of Champagne, a famous drink that is often associated with celebrations and special occasions. In many countries, it is not allowed to make or use Champagne that is not produced in the official area, making it a special import that should be consumed only from the official wineries and vineyards. The climate in the areas where the grapes are grown and the wine is made is a lot cooler than that of the regions located to the south of France, meaning the vineyards and grapes grow and taste differently to those that grow in the warmer regions.

France really does have some of the best wines known to man, with wineries and vineyards dedicating themselves to producing top quality bottles of wine. It is definitely worth taking advantage of what is on the market in regards to French wine.
