Italian Red Wine: Top Choices
IMAGE

Red wine is often touted as being beneficial for your health, an alternative to the gym or being far healthier than white wine in general. Although there are scientific studies which suggest red wine could be a great fat burner, this is within moderation to an overall healthy lifestyle. However, shedding a few pounds here and there doesn’t have to involve cutting out the glass of red wine in the evening altogether.

There’s a great selection of reds out there for you to enjoy and relax with and Italian red wine is a favourite for many. Veneto is Italy’s most reliable area for consistently great tasting wine. They make excellent examples of these wines in the Classico areas in the hills. Zenato, Campagnola and Cesari are amongst the region’s best producers and are all widely recognised in the Italian wine guides, where they regularly win awards.

First up is the Amarone Caterina Zardini Campagnola 2009, which is the flagship wine from Campagnola. It’s one of the very best wines from Veneto and all of Italy with its big, rich and powerful tastes. With a very low sulphite level, this is the perfect Italian red wine for those who prefer their natural wines or are sensitive to the sulphites that a vast majority of wines contain.

For a smoother and fruitier finish, the Valpolicella Classico Superiore Caterina Zardini Campagnola 2012 is the bottle of red for you. All of its elements combined make for a superb wine, with its fruity taste, intense flavours and low sulphite level for those with allergies. The creation behind the wine involves hand harvested grapes, with only the best of those selected. These go on to be pre dried for 20 days to concentrate the sugars, which then creates this all-round delicious wine. Packed with many flavours, this wine is great with food or as a glass to be enjoyed on its own.
